Let us help others, and thereby we help ourselves. This, of course, is not valid for Darfur only, but is valid for our daily life, for the environment in which we live. There the situations in which people need help are seen best. Of course, if we want to see. At present, we are mainly oriented in a manner rather not to see. In order not to disturb our daily life, the worries we have with ourselves, our career, our house, our car, possibly with our family. Mainly, our interests stop here. For us this is more than enough, we do not need worries for anybody else. It is not necessary to worry. It is enough when we see and help. Mostly, immediately, after an instantaneous impulse, when someone is seen to be in trouble, when we are ready to help at once. Such situation cannot be foreseen. They simply arise, and then it depends upon our inclination what our reaction will be. Will we state that we do not have time, that we have so many other things in our mind, that we cannot? Or would you without thought simply give an aid and do what you can. The latter case is the state, the conscience, at which we aim, which shows the differeence between a good man and a disgusted egotist. Why disgusted? It is my belief that no egotist is happy. He has too many worries about himself, and restriction to this theme will hardly make anybody happy. Under the burden of his Ego he is completely tense, handicapped, embittered finally as hardly anybody can understand him in all his grandeur and give him recognition, which such an Ego deserves. When someone is to such an extent entangled with himself, he will hardly see someone else. He will not see a man in need, who needs help. These are only disturbances in the world of his Ego. How is it possible that people do not understand this! And, finally, such a person really suffers. His burdens are such that he constantly worries about something, is angry about something or disturbed by something. He is really to be pitied.
However, we better help the others. People, who suffer, but do not suffer because of the great Ego, because of egotism. People, who for various reasons happened to find themselves on the edge and cannot go forward themselves. People, who are sick, hungry, without roof over their heads. Let us, first of all, help the elderly and children. It is the most sad to see pictures of suffering children. And there are so many children in the world hungry, dying of hunger and thirst. Their parents cannot help them as they themselves do not have food or water. Or parents are no longer around. And these children are not guilty of any bad deed in the world, they have hardly started to live. For this reason it is difficult to look away and not notice their suffering. They look into the world with such devotion, with a big question mark on their faces. Is this the world in which we should live, grow up, learn, get married, have children ....? Have we missed the world in which we should be born? However, the world is this world here. Also we live in it. Also we are responsible for it.In spite of doing nothing, we are nevertheless responsible for the suffering of these children. It is true, we are happy that in Slovenia such scenes are less frequent than in some other places in the world. However, also here there can be found children, who suffer. Perhaps they have no parents, their parents may be alcoholics and do not care for them, maybe they live in an unfriendly environment. Especially we have to protect children from violence. There is no more wicked deed than violence against a child, against weaker beings in general. Be it from parents or anybody else, nobody has the right to mishandle children. Thereby the individual depreciates himself as a human being, he having no right to educate or be in any other manner superior to children. Let us help whenever we see children in need. Sometimes, a small gesture or a friendly word will be enough, sometimes more will be required.
There are non-governmental organisations helping children. Let us help them. The most known is Unicef, which is one of the most progressive humanitarian organisations here and all over the world. Also, the agency Ustanova Skupaj has lately helped children in need to a high degree. We could further enumerate. Let them present themselves. I invite them to join the website of the Gibanje (Movement) and present their activities, their needs. Maybee our members and sympathisers will find a way and means to given them an aid and improve their actions. It is not our aim to establish new institutions in places where they exist and where they activities are successful. We can help them, connect people, who have good will and a wish to help. The action World for Darfur is already in progress, and we can with pleasure state that it is doing so with an ever higher response of our people. Through this action and our humanitarian organisations, numerous people have helped children in this African region. Hundreds of thousands of children are in need of aid there. We can be proud that also Slovenia has joined this action. This is one of the noblest deeds we have been able to achieve up to the present. There are many Darfurs in the world, also at home a little Darfur could be found. Consequetnly, let us help children wherever we can. Let this become the culture of our behaviour, something which is self understood and not an exception. We could really be proud of our country then. I hope that in time we could be proud of the whole world. So that children would not with sadness have to find in what a wicked world of injustice they were born.
